What are 3D nails?
Nails no longer have to be the two-dimensional mani you’re used to. 3D nails are essentially exactly what the name suggests, nails that have textured, “raised” designs. They mainly originated in South Korea and Japan.
3D nail designs are often created using builder gel, which is a thick, durable, heavy-duty gel polish. Builder gel is used to create extensions for nails, add length and thickness and create 3D nail art.
There are a few things to be aware of about this nail art technique before you try it out. For starters, they can be a bit pricey since the intricate designs take extra time, detail and attention. They often cost upward of $75, and with a super design-heavy 3D manicure, can even cost $200 to $300. Further, 3D nail designs are usually going to take longer than the traditional manicure appointment, so be prepared to spend at least a few hours at the salon.
