The Martian | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Aramide Tinubu Shadow and Act The Martian is a film about human error, the will to survive, and the responsibility that we have as human beings, not just to the work that we dedicate our lives to, but to one another as people. Apr 12, 2017 Full Review The Martian | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association A half-hour into The Martian any seasoned moviegoer can figure out where the plotline in this feel-good movie has to go. That's a shame and the film's biggest transgression. Mar 15, 2017 Full Review The Martian | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Kristen Yoonsoo Kim Complex Despite being marketed under the mainstream bait of a "space movie," The Martian is, more than anything, a love letter to science, without ever feeling like a boring textbook. Rated: 3/5 Feb 23, 2017 Full Review The Martian | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Brendan Cassidy InSession Film Welcome back, Sir Ridley Scott. The Martian was easily one of my favorite blockbusters of the year, a film crowded with a stunning cast in which everyone is given their due. Aug 2, 2024 Full Review The Martian | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Josh Slater-Williams Vague Visages As a piece of sweeping populist entertainment, The Martian is a great success, despite a couple of issues that perturb throughout. Nov 15, 2023 Full Review The Martian | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) Damon has always had a knack for playing ordinary but determined men, and this quality is ideal for the role he has here: a Robinson Crusoe on the red planet. tericee Just as good as the book! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/22/24 Full Review Abigail I I love when a Sci-fi film is more science than fiction without being too much of a drab. This movie was great from start to finish. A true hoorah movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Jayson This film is a masterpiece. My all time favorite comfort watch. I pick up new details every time I rewatch it. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/25 Full Review Dan D Terrific Mars movie. Matt Damon is great as a castaway waiting for his rescue boat to show up. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Iris v The MartianYear: 2015Directed by: Ridley ScottGenres: Science fiction/ActionMovie budget: 108 millionDuration: 142 minMovie revenues: 604 millionA film adaptation based on the novel: The Martian written by Andy Weir.We travel to the year 2035 where a team of astronauts travels to Mars.Trouble arises when the crew gets caught in a very violent sandstorm. One of the crew members is hit by flying debris. His team does their utmost to find him, but due to the heavy storm they have to evacuate. They think Mark did not survive and inform their control center and return to earth with their spaceship Hermes. One of the employees of Nasa notices movement on the satellite images. Nasa soon finds out that Mark Watney is still alive.A veritable media circus ensues. The whole world hopes that Wantey will survive, but the next mission to Mars is not scheduled for another 4 years...This film is a true Science Fiction spectacle. After a few minutes I was completely sucked into the storyline. The visual effects are a joy to watch. You almost get the idea that you are standing on Mars yourself.I have read the novel as well. Often when books are adapted into films, many details are cut from the final script, so the book is always a bit more detailed than the film itself. That can sometimes be a disappointment. Here it is exactly the opposite. The final film is much more spectacular than the book itself. In the book there was more focus on Watney's diary entries and much less on the environment in which he finds himself. My rating ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐/5 starsMy rating:9/10⭐ Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Aaron D More efficient, with less flub than the book, The Martian is a great endeavor. The only thing that holds it back for myself are some goofy physical movements and lack of emotional depth. If I were stuck on Mars (and even remotely capable of surviving] I'd be a heck of a lot more emotional. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Read all reviews
